Joe Manchin Violates Pledge to His Constituents

Joe Manchin (D-WV) compromised and threw his support behind the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act which has been rebranded to a climate act because it won’t reduce inflation.

What it will do is raise taxes on Americans, grow the IRS to track those Americans, and provide money to special projects for the climate that likely won’t reduce the impacts of the climate.

Manchin promised his constituents “no tax hikes” in 2010 and he has no violated that promise, American’s for Tax Report points out.

Manchin first promised that there would be no tax hikes during a recession. We are currently in a recession and the new legislation will raise taxes.

“I don’t think during a time of recession you mess with any of the taxes, or increase any taxes,” Manchin said at the time.

ATR points out this is a lie.

Manchin also promised that there would be no tax hikes until the government is running efficiently. Manchin said, “I can’t look the people in West Virginia in the eye and ask them to pay a penny more until I know we’re running this government efficient.”

Manchin may have sealed his electoral fate. But it will not be up to the people of West Virginia to remember what Manchin told them, that he did the opposite, and that they will have a choice at the ballot box in the future.
