Jim Gaffigan, a comedian, criticized Vice President Harris’s absence at the annual Al Smith charity dinner in New York City on Thursday night, querying the Democratic nominee’s absence.
“I’m sorry, why is Vice President Harris not here?” Gaffigan asked the crowd.
“I mean, consider this. This is a room full of Catholics and Jews in New York City. This is a layup for the Democratic nominee. I mean, in her defense, I mean, she did find time to appear on “The View,” Howard Stern, Colbert and the long time staple of campaigning, the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. You know what I think it is? I think she doesn’t like me.” he continued.
“The Democrats have been telling us Trump, Trump’s reelection is a threat to democracy. In fact, they were so concerned of this threat, they staged a coup. Ousted their democratically elected incumbent, and installed Kamala Harris,” Gaffigan added
“In other words, all her dreams have come true.” he concluded.
Harris became the first significant presidential candidate in decades to decline the invitation to attend the dinner in person.
The vice president did deliver remarks via a video, in which she criticized her GOP rival, former President Trump, who was in attendance, for his recent attacks on the city of Detroit and election denialism.
Trump, who did attend the ceremony, also expressed his dissatisfaction with his Democratic opponent for failing to attend.
