Trump Predicts Gas Prices Will Plummet Below $2 a Gallon Once U.S. ‘Wins’ War With Iran

President Donald Trump is making a bold prediction about relief at the pump, insisting gas prices will eventually plunge below $2 a gallon once the United States claims victory in its ongoing conflict with Iran.

The prediction comes as gas prices soared over Labor Day weekend, hitting the highest-ever national average for the holiday, with costs exceeding $4 a gallon in many parts of the country.

In a Truth Social post Monday night, Trump declared that oil prices would drop "precipitously" alongside other costs once the U.S. secures victory in Iran, predicting prices would fall to $3 a gallon before eventually dropping below $2, a level not seen since the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

"Oil prices will drop precipitously, like everything else is dropping (but more!), when we WIN the war with Iran. Three Dollars a gallon, but ultimately, below Two Dollars a gallon. It will all happen quickly, and Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon. MAGA!" Trump wrote.

The optimistic forecast comes as Trump continues to grapple with sluggish approval ratings, largely tied to high consumer prices and ongoing frustration over the war in Iran, which began on February 28 with joint airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel. The conflict has claimed the lives of 18 American service members and has now dragged on for more than six months with no clear end in sight.

Vice President JD Vance, addressing the conflict during the administration's first White House briefing in 40 days last week, sidestepped a direct question about when the war might conclude, telling reporters, "I wouldn't call it a war."

Trump himself downplayed the severity of the conflict while speaking with reporters in the Oval Office last week, describing it as "small potatoes" for the United States. "I'll tell you what, a lot of people don't call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it's small potatoes for us. It's not a big thing," Trump said, comparing the 18 American casualties favorably to losses in past conflicts such as Vietnam.

Trump added that current operations were "intermittent," insisting there was no active fighting at the moment and that the U.S. maintains firm control over the Strait of Hormuz along with substantial oil resources in the region.

Whether the president's prediction of sub-$2 gas prices comes to fruition remains to be seen, but for now, American drivers continue to face steep costs at the pump as the conflict grinds on.
