The New York Attorney General Letitia James’ fraud case against former President Donald Trump, his corporation, and his adult children has now reportedly been dropped against Ivanka Trump.
In a decision handed down on Tuesday, a New York appeals court declared that Ivanka Trump was no longer a party to the $250 million case because the claims had expired under the state’s statute of limitations.
Ivanka Trump left the Trump Organization in 2017 to take a position as her father’s senior adviser; she was never accused of wrongdoing during that time.
James filed a civil action in 2022 alleging the Trump Organization engaged in a number of dishonest business activities between 2011 and 2021.
In order to manipulate the asset values of his golf clubs and the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence, it is alleged that Trump and his older children, Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric Trump, deceived banks, insurance companies, and other financial organizations.
The New York Appellate Division of the Supreme Court decided on Tuesday that Ivanka Trump’s alleged misconduct in 2016 was acceptable.
Nevertheless, a lower court will have to decide if additional claims in the complaint will also be time-barred.
In spite of this, James’s office announced that it would continue pursuing the lawsuit in spite of the setback.
