New Poll Shows DeSantis and Haley Now in a Dead Heat for 2nd Place in GOP Primary

New polling indicates that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley are now both tied for second place in the 2024 Republican primary, while former President Trump maintains a substantial lead over both of them.

According to a new survey by NewsNation and Decision Desk HQ, 11% of Republican voters ranked DeSantis first, while 10% ranked Haley.

Both candidates have been competing for the second-place position, trailing significantly behind Trump, in an effort to reduce the former president’s lead.

The survey also found that Trump received sixty percent of the vote, a double-digit lead over his two closest competitors. Other candidates have also encountered similary difficulty in narrowing the gap over the former president.

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie (R) received approximately 3 percent, while entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy obtained some 6 percent.

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R) each received less than 1 percent.

DeSantis was long regarded as the former president’s closest rival, but Haley’s debate performances in recent weeks have given her a boost, and she appears to be closing in on the Florida governor for the runner-up position in some states.

This week, qualified Republican presidential candidates will compete in the party’s fourth debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

It is probable that this will be one of the final occasions for them to present their arguments to a sizable Republican audience prior to the start of the voting phase of the primary in January.

Between November 26-27, 1,090 registered, self-identified Republican electors participated in the NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ survey; the margin of error is approximately 2 percentage points.
