Jim Jordan Announces He Will Oppose Continued Welfare for Ukraine if He’s Speaker

Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a Republican from Ohio, declared this week that he would oppose providing Ukraine any additional aid if he were to take over as Speaker of the House.

Jordan’s comments follow the historic vote on Tuesday that saw Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) removed from his position as Speaker under the leadership of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a number of other Republicans, and the entire House Democrat Caucus.

Jordan praised McCarthy’s nine months as speaker in a letter to House colleagues on Wednesday, highlighting his ability to “unite” the party.

“Are you willing to move forward with an aid package to Ukraine if you’re speaker?” CNN reporter Manu Raju asked.

“I’m against that. At some point, we’re going to have to deal with this appropriations process in the right way. We’re going to try to do that in the next 41 days.” Jordan responded.

“The most pressing issue on Americans’ mind is not Ukraine — it is the border situation, and is crime on streets,” he continued.
