In a new straw poll of voters in the district where the contentious congresswoman recently settled and is vying for re-election to the House, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) managed to only rank fifth.
Boebert, who was initially elected to represent the 3rd Congressional District of Colorado in 2020, declared her intention to switch districts and compete for reelection in the 4th District this year.
This decision was made in response to the retirement of Rep. Ken Buck (R), a representative from the 4th District.
Boebert’s reelection prospects would be considerably enhanced in the new district should she secure the Republican nomination. She presently serves in a swing district, and prior to her switch, it appeared probable that Boebert would face Democrat Adam Frisch a second time.
However, Frisch was defeated by her in 2022 by a margin of less than only 600 ballots.
In contrast, the 4th District is a staunchly Republican area that has not voted for a Democratic representative in the House for the past half-century.
However, the straw poll results released on Thursday, subsequent to the initial debate among Republican candidates vying for that district, suggest that Boebert might face a formidable opponent.
According to Colorado Politics, Boebert’s performance towards the end of the cohort of nine candidates elicited both astonishment and resignation.
She obtained 12 ballots from the participants of the debate, which accounted for approximately 10 percent of the overall tally.
The news source reported that former Colorado House Minority Leader Mike Lynch, Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg, Douglas County filmmaker Deborah Flora, and state House Minority Whip Richard Holtorf all secured ballots in front of her, each with 22 a piece.
Only candidates who attended the debate were included in the straw poll, which is not regarded as an empirical survey of the district in the same way that a polling firm would conduct one.
