J.D. Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio, reportedly warned on Sunday about the growing influence of the criminal organizations and said he would “empower” the president to use military force against the Mexican drug cartels.
In an interview with Chuck Todd on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” on Sunday, Vance said that “real American leadership” is required to address the fentanyl epidemic that is coming from outside of the country.
Vance asserted that the United States had to intervene due to the rising power of drug cartels.
“I want to empower the president of the United States, whether that’s a Democrat or Republican, to use the power of the U.S. military to go after these drug cartels. Here’s the real problem with Mexico, and it’s sort of two-fold: On the one hand, you have the cartels which are arguably the best-funded criminal terrorist organization in the entire world.” Vance said.
“The second thing, Chuck, is we have to recognize the Mexican government is being in a lot of ways destabilized by the constant flow of fentanyl.” he continued.
Vance warned Todd that the drug cartels would surpass the Mexican government in power three years from now, drawing comparisons to what transpired in Colombia when the gangs grew too powerful.

The senator from Ohio ended by calling for more consequences for China, due to that country’s role in the fentanyl trade with Mexico:
“The Chinese export a ton to the American markets, they absolutely need the American consumer to be able to run their businesses. We should be willing to say that if you don’t stop sending fentanyl precursors to Mexico and to our own ports of entry, we’re going to really penalize you guys economically.” he concluded.

The Mexican gov’t is essentially “owned” by the cartels. Many of their members are elected officials, at least within the various states, if not also among the Federals. Their money finances the gov’t. For that reason the Mexican gov’t is in no rush to take them out. If they stayed I’m Mexico, that’d be a Mexican issue, but they don’t. And our gov’t has been unwilling to do what’s necessary either. Obama literally handed over the southern 1/5 of AZ to cartel rule in ’10, when Gov Brewer tried to get help with their invasion…
