Biden to Sign Republican Led Bill Ending Covid Emergency

According to a new report, President Joseph Biden will sign legislation pushed by by Republicans to put an end to the national COVID-19 emergency.

This, in spite of the fact that Biden continues to voice opposition to the measure.

The bill was approved by the Senate for the third time on Wednesday with a vote of 68 to 23, and it is currently awaiting the signature of President Joe Biden.

“The President strongly opposes HJ Res 7, and the administration is planning to wind down the COVID national emergency and public health emergency on May 11. If this bill comes to his desk, however, he will sign it, and the administration will continue working with agencies to wind down the national emergency with as much notice as possible to Americans who could potentially be impacted,” a statement from the White House read.

The move marks the second time in recent weeks that President Joe Biden has sided with Republicans on legislation.

In early March, Biden declined to veto a measure that was led by Republicans to nix updates to Washington, D.C.’s criminal code.

The action may also hurt House Democrats, as 197 of them voted to keep the emergency in place last month.

The Republican senator from Kansas, Roger Marshall, who is also one of the primary authors of the measure, has demanded that the government remove the “authoritarian” emergency powers that were granted to the president at the beginning of the epidemic.
