President Joe Biden made a blatantly false claim about gas costs under the Trump administration on Thursday, stating that when he began office, the most typical price of petrol was over five dollars.
According to GasBuddy, the national average price of gas did not exceed $5 until June 2022, during the Biden administration.
It remained below $3 during throughout the Trump administration.
In prior months, the Biden administration made deceptive assertions regarding gas prices, citing the “most prevalent” pricing statistic rather than the national average. Although the “most usual” price is correct, it does not reflect what most Americans pay at the pump.
Monday, the average price of gasoline in fifteen states was $3.49 or less. On the same day, California had the highest average of $5.75.
The White House has also blamed Biden’s record-high gas prices on the COVID-19 outbreak and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Biden has been desperately trying to help Democratic candidates across the country ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Especially as most polls are now showing a significant advantage for GOP candidates across the country, much of it due to the President’s own unpopularity with voters.
