GOP Super PAC Drops Millions on TV Ads

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s aligned Super PAC is unloading tons of ammo for November.

The Senate Majority Leadership Fund has reserved over $141 million in television advertising buys for this election cycle.

According to the report, McConnell’s PAC reserved TV spots in seven states: Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The majority of the money is going into the Georgia election between incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock (D) who is being challenged by Herschel Walker, a Trump-endorsed candidate who previously played in the NFL and won the Heisman trophy in 1982.

Additionally, according to The Hill:

The PAC plans to spend $14.4 million against Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and $15.1 million against Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.). It has reserved $27.6 million to defend retiring Sen. Richard Burr’s (R) seat in North Carolina, and $24.6 million to secure retiring Sen. Pat Toomey’s (R) seat in Pennsylvania.

The group has reserved $7.4 million for Alaska, where Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) faces a challenge from a candidate who has the backing of former President Trump. That money will come after the Aug. 16 all-party primary; the top four contenders in that primary advance to the November general election.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R) will get a boost from the $15.2 million the PAC plans to spend in Wisconsin. Johnson will face the winner of the Aug. 9 Democratic primary.

The report notes that New Hampshire was notably left off the Super PAC’s recent list of television ad buys. This might be a sign of relief for struggling Democrat incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan and/or a sign that Republicans have not been able to court a strong enough candidate to get McConnell and other national Republicans interested in spending their resources in the Granite State.
