Tine Peters, who is running for secretary of state in Colorado and is currently the clerk of Mesa County was indicted for election tampering.
The tampering occurred in May of 2021 election and involved election equipment.
Peters promoted Trump’s theories of election tampering and eventually entered a secure area where election machines were kept and copied the hard drives. She is also accused of recording a maintenance procedure of a machine.
Most concerning to prosecutors was the copying of election-management software.
Peters was the top election official in the county at the time and now wants to hold that top spot in the state. Her views on Trump’s victory have still not changed.
A conservative website published the passwords to the machines in Mesa County in August, and authorities connect Peters to the leak of those passwords.
Peters’s deputy clerk, Belinda Knisley was also indicted on 6 counts.
