President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to encourage Americans to remain patient and strong amid the economic turmoil sparked by his newly announced “Liberation Day” tariffs.
He criticized individuals he described as “Weak and Stupid” for panicking over the recent stock market drop, insisting that patience is essential for achieving “GREATNESS.”
Trump introduced the term “PANICAN,” referring to those opposed to his tariff plan, and urged citizens to exhibit strength, courage, and patience during these uncertain times.
In his message, Trump claimed that the United States has an opportunity to rectify longstanding trade issues that should have been addressed decades earlier.
He indicated a willingness to engage in negotiations with various countries, highlighting a recent conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba about potential trade agreements.
Trump asserted that many nations are reaching out to discuss trade protections, asserting a need for change, particularly in relations with China.
Despite the unsettled markets, Trump compared the stock price declines to “medicine” necessary for healing the U.S. economy.
He acknowledged the pain investors might feel but emphasized that sometimes difficult decisions are required to correct past trade imbalances.
When questioned about the potential market pain, he dismissed the inquiry as “stupid,” reinforcing his belief that harsh measures are essential to fix issues arising from what he termed “stupid leadership.”
The president’s comments come amid mounting political pressure from a group of Republican senators pushing for legislation that would require Congressional approval for new tariffs, reflecting a divide within the party regarding trade policy.
