Recently, the University of Florida made the decision to terminate all DEI employees and close its DEI office.
The University of Florida’s decision to terminate DEI employees is a direct result of a recent regulatory change by the Florida Board of Governors, which now prohibits the use of state funding for DEI initiatives.
According to local sources, 13 DEI positions were eliminated, along with 15 administrative appointments for faculty members.
Following the state’s decision to prohibit the use of state funding for initiatives that categorize individuals based on certain characteristics and advocate for preferential treatment, the school’s DEI employees were terminated and the DEI office was closed.
“To comply with the Florida Board of Governor’s regulation 9.016 on prohibited expenditures, the University of Florida has closed the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, eliminated positions and administrative appointments, and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors,” a statement from the college’s provost read.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed several bills that prevent institutions from using state or federal funds for DEI initiatives.
