Sunday afternoon, the United States Military declared that two Navy SEALs who vanished during a mission off the coast of Africa almost two weeks ago are presumed deceased.
On January 11, while conducting a nighttime interdiction mission, one of the SEALs was being carried away by the force of the ocean swells while attempting to ascend onto a vessel.

In accordance with protocol, the next Navy SEAL up jumped into the water to try and save him only to also be overcome by the water.
CENTCOM reported that Japan and Spain joined the United States in a search that spanned over 21,000 square miles for the two SEALs.
The Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center, the Atlantic Area Command of the United States Coast Guard, the Scripts Institute of Oceanography at the University of San Diego, and the Oceanographic Support of the Office of Naval Research all contributed further assistance.
