New York Democrats Push Bill to Force Christian Owned Chick-Fil-A to Stay Open on Sundays

If enacted, a bill introduced by a Democrat in New York would require the Christian-owned restaurant chain Chick-fil-A to operate on Sundays or remove a significant number of its locations from a main highway system in the state.

Assemblyman Tony Simone, who openly criticizes Chick-fil-A for its “terrible track record on LGBT rights,” introduced Bill A08336 to require the New York State Thruway Authority to enter into contracts exclusively with establishments that operate around the clock.

“Chick-fil-A has had a terrible record on LGBT rights. I’m not going to not say that clearly.” said in a recent statement to the New York Post.

“To serve New Yorkers and travelers, things should be open seven days a week, including Chick-fil-A, and if they can’t they shouldn’t be in our rest stops. There should be options for people to eat and drink and not just one spot.” he continued.

Notably, a requirement has been established to ensure that truckers and travelers are better accommodated at these rest sites every day of the week: at least one hot-food establishment must be operational and available.

For instance, if Chick-fil-A is closed at a particular rest stop on Sundays, another restaurant is available.

At least three of the seven Chick-fil-A locations currently situated along the interstate and the ones that are scheduled to be constructed would be impacted by the legislation.

Due to the Christian faith of its owners, the popular poultry chain is famous for closing its doors on Sundays.
