Former President Trump blasted fellow Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis on Monday, following Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds’s (R) influential endorsement of the Florida governor.
“Why would anybody endorse Ron DeSanctimonious, who is like a wounded bird falling from the sky? His Poll numbers are terrible, he is totally against Ethanol, and fought to destroy Social Security and Medicare.” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Monday.
Reynolds initially swore to abstain from the 2024 Republican primary; however, he hosted events with nearly every candidate in the race in the state that was a hotbed for early primary activity. In the past, Trump pursued her neutral stance.
The former president initially criticized Reynolds for the endorsement on Sunday night, prior to its official announcement.
Monday, Reynolds portrayed Trump as self-centered and DeSantis as an effective presidential candidate in her endorsement.
Senior campaign leaders assert that a victory in Iowa is the only way the DeSantis campaign can hope to surpass Trump, given the latter’s substantial lead in national polls.
