Houston will reportedly serve as the host city for the 2028 Republican National Convention, the Republican National Committee (RNC) said on Friday.
Members of the RNC committee decided to hold the convention five years from now in the largest city in the Lone Star State. One year before the party’s 2024 event, the 2028 host will be revealed.
“I am excited to announce Houston as the host city for the 2028 Republican National Convention. After a smart business decision made by the RNC last spring to allow us to select the next convention city earlier than ever, we are looking forward to seeing Houston in the spotlight come 2028,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel reportedly said.
The first presidential primary debate for the party was place earlier this week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which will also host the 2024 Republican National Convention in July.
The event’s dates for 2028 have not yet been revealed.
The group claims that it anticipates 50,000 attendees and a $200 million economic effect on Houston from the RNC.
In 1992, when former President George H.W. Bush was re-nominated in Houston, Texas hosted its last political convention.
Members of the committee and city officials want Houston to not only prosper economically but also for the national and international media to recognize the uniqueness of the city.
