Trump Shares Video Calling for Deportation of Democratic Socialists, Including NYC Mayor Mamdani

President Donald Trump on Sunday shared a video from conservative commentator Michael Savage that called for the deportation of what Savage described as “hardcore communist bastards,” specifically naming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as he criticized the growing influence of democratic socialist candidates.
The 49-minute video, originally posted by Savage on July 4, argued that democratic socialists running as Democrats are steering the United States toward socialism through policies that include the expansion of government-funded programs. During the video, Savage compared the country's trajectory to Cambodia under dictator Pol Pot.
“That is exactly what Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists will do to you,” Savage said. “Forget the smirks, forget the smiles, forget the bulls— that it’s like Denmark and Norway. These are hardcore communist bastards who must be stopped, criminalized and deported. I’m clear as a bell on this. We will fall if they are not deported.”
Trump's decision to share the video drew attention because of his previous interactions with Mamdani. Although the president has repeatedly criticized Democrats for embracing what he characterizes as communist ideas through the rise of democratic socialist candidates, he has also at times spoken favorably about Mamdani. After Mamdani won New York City's mayoral race last year, Trump held what was widely described as a friendly meeting with him at the White House.
Savage continued his criticism by naming additional progressive figures.
He said Mamdani, Sen. Bernie Sanders and “the other scum who should be criminalized and deported” should be sent to Uganda “before they spread the cancer.” He also criticized democratic socialist candidates who recently prevailed in Democratic primary elections across the country.
Later in the video, Savage intensified his rhetoric, declaring that “open Marxists” now occupy influential positions in the United States.
“Right now, we have open Marxists in high places in America. Every one of them must be criminalized and deported. I’m not mincing words, I don’t care what the courts say,” Savage said before criticizing the Supreme Court's recent ruling upholding birthright citizenship, which he called “death to America.”
Throughout the video, Savage repeatedly urged the deportation of democratic socialist candidates while equating their political beliefs with communist ideology.
Trump has also repeatedly argued that the democratic socialist movement poses a significant threat to the country. He has previously claimed that democratic socialist candidates are more dangerous to the United States than both the two world wars and the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office late last month, Trump said the movement's branding masks what he believes is its true ideology.
“They use the word social democrat because it sounds so nice, but it’s really communism you’re talking about,” Trump said.
The debate comes as Democrats have increasingly focused their messaging on affordability while inflation continues to rise under the Trump administration. Trump has countered by accusing the far left of making promises that cannot be fulfilled, arguing that it is “too easy to get elected, giving everything away.”
The recent success of democratic socialist candidates in Democratic primaries has also sparked debate within the Democratic Party. While some Democrats have welcomed those victories, others have expressed concern that the party could struggle in upcoming fall elections if voters view it as becoming too politically extreme.
A recent poll conducted by The Economist/YouGov found that one in three Americans said they would be willing to support a democratic socialist candidate in an election, while 45 percent said they would not. The survey also found that 32 percent of respondents held a “very favorable” or “somewhat favorable” view of socialism, compared with 39 percent who viewed it “somewhat unfavorably” or “very unfavorably.”
