Conservative Influencer Sues Musk’s xAI Over Grok ‘Undressing’ Images, Seeks Court Order to Halt Bot

Ashley St. Clair, a conservative influencer who has publicly said she shares a child with tech billionaire Elon Musk, has filed a lawsuit against Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, seeking a temporary restraining order to stop its Grok chatbot from generating sexualized images of her.

St. Clair’s suit, filed Thursday in New York County before being moved to federal court, argues that Grok is “unreasonably dangerous as designed” and constitutes a public nuisance. According to reporting by The Wall Street Journal, the complaint alleges that the chatbot can be prompted by users to create deepfake-style edits that remove clothing or otherwise sexualize real photographs of individuals, including St. Clair.

The lawsuit claims that users have used Grok to create sexualized images of St. Clair by manipulating ordinary photos, including images of her taken when she was a minor. One filing cited by the Journal states that St. Clair “lives in fear that nude and sexual images of herself, including of her as a child, will continue to be created by xAI” and that she does not feel safe from people who view or share those images.

At the center of the dispute is what has become known online as the “Grok put her in a bikini” phenomenon. Users on X have publicly tagged the Grok chatbot with commands such as “@grok put her in a bikini,” prompting the system to generate altered images that depict women in sexualized ways. Those images, once created, can then spread rapidly across the platform.

St. Clair has said that one particularly disturbing incident involved a photograph of her taken when she was 14 years old. According to her account, users prompted Grok to “undress” her and place her in a bikini. She has described that experience as a serious violation, arguing that the technology enables the creation and distribution of sexualized content without consent.

The legal fight over Grok is unfolding alongside an already contentious and public custody dispute between St. Clair and Musk. According to People, St. Clair previously filed suit against Musk in New York in February 2025, seeking sole legal custody of their child and a formal paternity ruling.

That dispute escalated further in January. On Jan. 12, Musk reignited the conflict with a post on X in which he said he would be filing for full custody. In that post, Musk cited statements by St. Clair that he said implied she might transition a one-year-old boy, a claim that added another layer of intensity to the ongoing legal battle.

St. Clair’s lawsuit against xAI focuses squarely on the design and capabilities of the Grok chatbot. The complaint argues that the system allows users to easily generate sexualized depictions of real people, creating what her attorneys describe as a dangerous and harmful tool that can be misused at scale.

The case highlights growing concerns over artificial intelligence, deepfake technology, and the lack of safeguards to protect individuals — particularly women and minors — from exploitation. It also places renewed scrutiny on Musk’s companies as they expand AI products that are directly accessible to millions of users.

As the legal proceedings move forward, the court will be asked to decide whether to step in immediately to limit Grok’s capabilities, even as broader debates continue over responsibility, free expression, and the risks posed by rapidly evolving artificial intelligence tools.
