Britain’s King Charles III reportedly set off a wave of criticism from conservatives in the United Kingdom and among some MAGA supporters in the United States after using his annual Christmas address to call for “compassion and reconciliation” and to declare that diversity is one of Britain’s greatest strengths.
Speaking from the historic Lady Chapel inside Westminster Abbey, King Charles delivered his message surrounded by centuries of tradition. The 500-year-old setting underscored the weight of the moment, as the monarch spoke about his hopes for the country and its people during a time of political and cultural tension.
In his remarks, King Charles said he longed for “resilience in the face of adversity, peace through forgiveness,” and encouraged people to simply get to know their neighbors. He added that by showing respect for one another, people could build new friendships and strengthen society. Central to his message was the idea that Britain’s diverse communities are a source of national strength.
The comments landed at a time when Britain’s Labour government is moving to tighten immigration policy and make the asylum process more restrictive, mirroring debates playing out in the United States. But unlike the approach taken by Donald Trump, the king framed diversity as a unifying force, saying that through “the great diversity of our communities, we can find the strength to ensure that right triumphs over wrong.”
That framing quickly drew sharp backlash online. Conservative blogger @NiohBerg criticized the speech, writing that the king had gone all in on the idea that “diversity is our strength.” The blogger argued that Britain is suffering and accused the monarch of ignoring the country’s struggles, claiming diversity has become a kind of ideology rather than a practical concern.
MAGA attorney Mike Davis amplified the criticism, adding his own blunt assessment. In a post directed at the king, Davis wrote that diversity is not Britain’s strength but instead its downfall.
Other conservative commentators echoed the sentiment. The account @WallStreetMav called the speech “ridiculous” and argued that the king lives behind security and walls, insulated from the consequences of the policies he praises. The post accused Charles of existing in a bubble and failing to represent or defend the English people.
In a follow-up post, @WallStreetMav shared a chart purporting to show diversity arrest rates in Britain, suggesting that the king’s message ignored uncomfortable realities on the ground. Additional criticism came from @TheBritLad, who described himself as defending Western values. He accused King Charles of betraying the Christian faith, turning his back on the crown, and acting against the interests of the British people. The post went further, declaring that the monarchy effectively ended with the death of Elizabeth II.

Another critic, @BasilTheGreat, accused the king of urging Britons to unite with people who want to take over the country and reduce native citizens to a minority. The post labeled Charles as part of the problem and called for a better king.
The reaction highlights the growing divide between Britain’s traditional institutions and a conservative base that feels increasingly disconnected from elite messaging. For critics, the king’s Christmas appeal was not a call for unity, but a symbol of how far removed they believe the monarchy has become from everyday concerns facing the nation.
