Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia Republican who recently announced she will retire from Congress after years as one of Donald Trump’s staunchest defenders, reportedly delivered a pointed warning to the president on Friday following his sweeping Thanksgiving declaration to halt immigration “from all Third World Countries.”
Trump’s holiday message, posted on Truth Social, was characteristically blunt and fiery. He wished Americans a Happy Thanksgiving while describing a nation battered by crime, division, and what he called catastrophic immigration failures.
He cited Census numbers claiming the United States now hosts 53 million foreign nationals, alleging that most come from failed states, criminal networks, or institutions and are sustained by American taxpayers who quietly endure the consequences.
Trump argued that migrants receiving green cards can access benefits far exceeding their income and insisted that the true migrant population is “much higher.”
He blamed the influx for what he described as a post–World War II collapse in social stability — from failing schools and high crime to housing shortages, hospital crowding, and budget deficits. He singled out Minnesota as an example, claiming “hundreds of thousands” of Somali refugees have overtaken the state and that gangs roam freely while residents fear leaving their homes. He blasted Gov. Tim Walz as “seriously retarded” and accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of entering the country improperly and attacking America while coming from what he called a “decadent, backward, and crime ridden” place with no functioning institutions.
Trump went on to outline what could be his most aggressive immigration plan to date. He pledged to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries,” reverse what he called “millions of Biden illegal admissions,” strip benefits from noncitizens, deport anyone deemed a public charge, security threat, or incompatible with Western values, and even denaturalize migrants who undermine “domestic tranquility.” He argued that only “reverse migration” could fix what he views as a national emergency.
While much of the MAGA base embraced the message enthusiastically, Greene — once one of Trump’s most loyal allies — publicly cautioned him against making promises he might not be able to fulfill.
Without naming Trump directly, she posted on X that “one of the worst mistakes you can ever make is over promise and under deliver. It will leave people furious to the point they won’t even appreciate the good things they received.” She added that “big promises have and still are being made,” a statement widely seen as directed at Trump’s escalating immigration pledges.
Greene’s pushback comes just days after she announced her upcoming resignation from Congress in a blistering video where she also criticized Trump in unusually harsh terms. Her latest comment suggests that the break between her and the president continues to deepen, even as Trump’s supporters rally around his call for an unprecedented shutdown of Third World immigration.
For Greene, the message seemed to be a warning rooted in political strategy: grand promises excite the base, but failure to deliver them carries consequences — even for a figure as dominant inside the Republican Party as Donald Trump.
