Red State Deals Crushing Blow to Group Helping Illegals Break the Law

A Republican-backed bill in Tennessee has reportedly now made significant strides against organizations that facilitate illegal immigration. Recently passed by the Tennessee House with a vote of 70-23, the legislation allows citizens harmed by illegal immigrants to sue non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide housing to these individuals.

The bill is now awaiting the signature of Governor Bill Lee.

Sponsored by Republican Rep. Rusty Grills, the bill aims to enhance public safety by creating a private right of action for those victimized by crimes committed by illegal aliens.

Grills emphasized that this legislation aligns with the Trump administration’s renewed focus on illegal immigration.

He clarified that the term “housing” in the bill excludes homeless shelters and storm shelters, focusing instead on long-term rental situations.

The Senate version of the bill, sponsored by Republican Sen. Brent Taylor, passed with a 24-4 vote earlier this month.

According to the bill, NGOs can be held liable for damages resulting from a crime committed by someone unlawfully present in the U.S. if their actions in providing housing are deemed negligent.

The move comes amid growing scrutiny of NGOs that have been accused of facilitating illegal immigration and human trafficking.

Tennessee has seen a notable influx of illegal immigrants, with nearly 3,000 arrests in late 2024 for various crimes, including serious offenses like murder and rape.

In addition to this bill, the House also passed another measure requiring law enforcement agencies to report their interactions with illegal aliens monthly.

Another proposed bill would allow schools to charge tuition to illegal immigrants, challenging the Supreme Court’s Plyler v. Doe decision.

As the legislative session closes, these developments could reshape Tennessee’s approach to illegal immigration.
