North Carolina Introduces Bill to Crack Down on Abortions Procured by Mail

North Carolina Republican Congressman Mark Harris reportedly proposed legislation on Friday to prohibit physicians from mailing abortion medications.

Harris proposed the “Teleabortion Prevention Act” to prohibit physicians from using medications to terminate pregnancies without performing a physical examination or being physically present.

The proposed legislation, presented as pro-lifers convene in Washington, D.C., for the March for Life, stipulates that physicians could incur a prison sentence of up to two years for mailing an abortion medication intended for a “self-managed” abortion.

“In the country, getting an abortion is as easy as walking to your mailbox. What this bill seeks to do is to protect women from that and it really just gives them an opportunity to be in a position to know what they’re doing,” Harris said.

He stated that the legislation would prohibit the distribution of abortion medications nationwide.

Chemical abortions are now estimated to constitute over fifty percent of all abortions and have only risen since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

The measure would prohibit the prosecution of women over abortion and would not affect ectopic pregnancies.

The proposal is co-sponsored by Republican Representatives Andrew Clyde (GA), Robert Aderholt (AL), Daniel Webster (FL), Brandon Gill (TX), Mary Miller (IL), and Michael Cloud (TX).

Conservative entities such as SBA Pro-Life America, Heritage Action, March for Life Action, and the Family Research Council are endorsing the measure.

Abortion pills have been transported into red states after the conclusion of Roe, including those where chemical abortions are prohibited.

These tablets are frequently distributed by leftist activist networks who provide them to individuals without age verification or medical oversight.

In December, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton initiated a case against a New York abortion provider, alleging the illegal shipment of abortion medications to a woman in Texas.

The lawsuit alleged that the pill inflicted harm on the mother and resulted in the demise of her unborn child.
