On Thursday, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) forces carried out a targeted attack that resulted in the death of Abu Yusif, the head of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The strike also resulted in the death of an additional ISIS operative who remained anonymous.
According to the Central Command of the United States, the region where the strike took place was formerly under the jurisdiction of both Russia and the Saudi regime.
The news of Yusif’s death came just a few days after the United States carried out precision strikes in Syria, ending the lives of twelve other terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State.
The airstrike comes after the Pentagon said on Thursday that the number of United States troops stationed in Syria has increased to 2,000, which is an increase from the 900 that were previously known to be present in Syria.
Major General Pat Ryder, who serves as the press secretary for the Pentagon, stated that the forces have been stationed in Syria for some time, dating back to before the regime of Bashar Assad was overthrown earlier this month.
