After the disclosure that the talk show host’s company, Harpo Productions, received a $1 million payment from campaign funds, Oprah Winfrey has denied allegations that she was compensated to campaign for Kamala Harris.
The Harris campaign made the payment on October 15 following a town hall event hosted by Winfrey in September, according to a report from The Washington Examiner.
Just days before the election, Oprah was also featured at Harris’ final campaign rally in Philadelphia, where she cautioned voters to attend the polls rather than succumb to the temptation to “sit this one out.”
The 70-year-old celebrity was confronted by TMZ on Monday regarding the allegation, which she had previously stated was “untrue.”
“I was paid nothing. Ever,” Oprah claimed.
“I was not paid a dime. My time and energy was my way of supporting the campaign,” Oprah wrote. “For the live-streaming event in September, my production company Harpo was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, microphones, crew, producers, and every other item necessary (including the benches and chairs we sat on) to put on a live production. I did not take any personal fee. However the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.” she added later in the week.
This is highly irregular. The subject of the interview does not pay for the set/production costs (the interviewer does) & even more shocking when said costs are $1Mil. Esp shady when it’s a presidential candidate.
This is grossly unethical. https://t.co/NM6hLox7J8— Megyn Kelly (@megynkelly) November 15, 2024
However many on social media were not satisfied with her explanation, including former Fox Star Meghan Kelly.
