According to Decision Desk HQ, Republican David McCormick is reportedly expected to defeat Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) in one of the nation’s most significant battlegrounds, thereby bolstering the party’s margins following its retaken control of the upper chamber earlier this week.
The victory of McCormick, an affluent former CEO of a hedge fund, was the result of a decade-long Republican campaign to remove Casey.
In addition, the state’s representation in the Senate will be divided, as it had been for the 12 years prior to Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-Pa.) election in 2022.
Republicans were attempting to shift seats that were currently held by Democratic incumbents in a small number of critical states, including this one.
The GOP was able to shift four Senate seats, including Pennsylvania, Montana, Ohio, and West Virginia. Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona were all retained by the Democratic Party.
Sen. Krysten Sinema, who transitioned from Democrat to independent in 2022, currently occupies the Arizona seat.
The Republican nominee endeavored to portray Casey as a senator who has failed to make any significant progress in his 18 years of office and has acted as little more than a rubber stamp for President Biden’s agenda.
