A new poll of members conducted as the group’s leadership considers an endorsement indicates that over half of Teamsters members are supporting former President Trump in the upcoming presidential election over Vice President Harris.
The Teamsters, one of the nation’s largest unions, reported that a survey of its members conducted following the debate between Harris and Trump last week revealed that 58% of respondents supported Trump, while 31% supported the vice president. Lake Research Partners conducted the survey.
Since the conclusion of President Biden’s candidacy in late July, the most recent poll indicated a substantial change in membership.
According to a survey conducted from April 9 to July 3, 44% of members supported Biden, while 36% supported Trump.
While seeking the organization’s endorsement, Trump met with Teamsters officials in January. Harris convened with the group’s leadership in Washington, D.C. on Monday.
Biden was endorsed by the Teamsters union during the 2020 election, prior to O’Brien’s election as president in 2021. The union has a history of supporting Democratic presidential candidates.
