Karl Rove joined the chorus of voices that were impressed by former First Lady Michelle Obama’s performance at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.
However, he also praised Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff for his efforts to try and humanize Vice President Kamala Harris during an appearance on Fox Business Network on Wednesday.
Stuart Varney, the anchor, observed that Obama’s speech was “extremely well-received” after playing a clip. He then turned to Karl Rove and inquired whether it was also effective.
“Oh, absolutely — she was the star of the evening, outshone her husband. In fact, I think Doug Emhoff outshone her husband, I thought Doug Emhoff also did an excellent job. Remember, most people don’t know a lot about the vice president of THE United States. That’s just the nature of the thing, And so being introduced, you know, here’s her husband and tells the funny story about their first date, and tells about the blended family. I mean, that that humanized her.” Rove said in response.
“And I thought Michelle Obama started the evening with a bang. And her husband, you know, spoke too long and later, but he was still effective. But they had a good night last night.” he continued.
