The nonpartisan Cook Political Report (CPR) has now reportedly changed the Michigan Senate race to a “toss up” on Thursday because Democratic candidates in other races are still being impacted by concerns about President Biden.
According to CPR, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (Mich.), who is expected to be the Democratic nominee after the Aug. 6 primary, has maintained a lead. Nevertheless, this lead is less than that of elections in other states that CPR has classified as “Lean Democrat.”
Although Slotkin is a formidable Democratic contender, Taylor pointed out that it’s her first time leading a statewide campaign. Slotkin famously turned a House seat blue in 2018.
According to CPR, which used RealClearPolitics estimates, Slotkin, a Democrat, is trailing Biden only in Michigan. That’s probably because not all Michiganders are familiar with her.
Early in 2023, upon the retirement of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Slotkin declared her candidacy for the Senate from Michigan.
The latest figure from Michigan comes after another CPR report this week that indicates Trump is making gains in significant swing states.
Biden’s chances of winning in November have been further harmed by his continued refusal to step down after his disastrous debate performance.
