Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) is now appearing to imply that the notion of former President Trump not having a sexual relationship with porn star Stormy Daniels is not credible.
He wryly remarked to CNN that, in his opinion, it is implausible that Trump paid someone $130,000 who he didn’t engage in sexual activity with you.
“I think everybody has made their own assessment of President Trump’s character. And so far as I know, you don’t pay someone $130,000 not to have sex with you.” Romney said.
Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney of Trump, made a payment to Daniels approximately ten days prior to the 2016 election in order to prevent her from disclosing her claimed relationship with Trump.
Daniels subsequently recounted to Anderson Cooper and “60 Minutes” engaging in sexual intercourse with Trump in a hotel suite following their encounter at a celebrity golf tournament held in Lake Tahoe in 2006.
Trump has since refuted allegations of engaging in a romantic relationship with Daniels, and his legal representatives issued a warning of potential legal action against her for breaching a confidentiality agreement.
However, Romney, a prominent Trump detractor who previously ran as the Republican nominee for president in 2012 and declared last year that he would not run for Senate again, stated to CNN on Tuesday that he accepts Daniels’s account as true.
The focal point of the lawsuit presented by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) against Trump is the affair and the payment of hush money to Daniels, which accuses him of breaching New York’s rule against fabricating business records.
If found guilty, Trump could face up to four years in prison.
