A poll released this week found that approximately one-third of U.S. adults believe President Biden was not legitimately elected president of the United States in 2020.
The Washington Post/University of Maryland (Post-UMD) survey investigates the progression of perspectives regarding the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as the insurrection approaches its third anniversary on Saturday.
An analogous survey was undertaken in December 2021.
As of last month, 62% of U.S. adults believe Biden was elected legitimately, a decrease from the aggregate percentage of 69% in the 2021 survey.
The Republicans experienced the most significant decline in the proportion of respondents who deemed the 2020 election results legitimate: 31% in 2023, compared to 39% two years earlier.
A modest decrease from 94 percent two years ago to 91 percent among Democrats believe Biden was legitimately elected; 66 percent of independents hold the same view, down from 72 percent in December 2021.
According to a survey by The Washington Post, a mere three out of ten individuals who obtain the majority of their news from Fox News believe that the election of the president was legitimate.
Trump maintains his position as the leading Republican candidate for re-election to the White House in 2024, notwithstanding the 91 criminal offenses consolidated in four indictments.
Two cases pertain to his endeavors to retain power subsequent to his defeat to Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
