According to a recent poll, the majority of New Yorkers think that the illegal immigration crisis is a severe problem that will “destroy” the city.
Over 118,000 illegal immigrants have entered the city since last year.
And now, according to a Siena College poll issued on Tuesday, 58% of New Yorkers agree with Democrat Mayor Eric Adams that the situation will “destroy” the Big Apple.
While the state’s citizens hold all tiers of government accountable for the disaster, the majority point the finger to President Biden.
Sixty-four percent of state registered voters disapprove of Biden’s handling of the matter, and fifty-two percent disapprove of the work Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul is doing in resolving the crisis.
Earlier this month, 600 undocumented immigrants were entering New York City each day.
Mayor Adams and other authorities are trying to suspend the city’s “right to shelter” responsibility in light of the large number of migrants entering the city.
Earlier this month, the city put a 60-day limit on how long immigrant families may stay in shelters before having to reapply.
This measure came after a comparable one for adults without children, who have to reapply after 30 days.
Large tents have already been set up to shelter immigrants, and city officials are now debating providing tents to recently arrived illegal immigrants so they may sleep in parks and other outdoor spaces.
