According to the most recent polling, former President Donald Trump is tied with former president Joe Biden for the Republican nomination for the general election while continuing to lead the Republican field in four of the first GOP primaries and caucuses.
At the national level, Trump now leads by over 45 percentage points.
The most recent polls don’t seem to show any shift as a result of the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7.
In Iowa, Trump has seen an increase in popularity, with the RCP average placing him at 50% and giving him a 33-point advantage over Ron DeSantis, who is currently in second place.
The Florida governor has turned the focus of his campaign to Iowa after relocating a sizable chunk of his team there.
Before moving nearly two dozen staff members to Des Moines, the DeSantis campaign, which employs 56 individuals, had four staff members in Iowa.
Over the summer, DeSantis’ support in the state fell precipitously in the polls.
DeSantis has fallen behind former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley in the polls, while Trump’s support in New Hampshire has remained around 45%.
The RCP average shows that Haley has increased to 14.2% in New Hampshire while DeSantis has decreased to 10.4%.
The former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, who currently has 9% of the vote, and the governor of Florida are now tied in the state.
However, despite the competition for second and third place in New Hampshire, Trump’s 30-point lead is still substantial and has grown to almost 50% in the most recent USA Today/Suffolk and CBS News polls.
Trump is polling about 50% in South Carolina, the home state of Haley and Sen. Tim Scott, and in the most recent Winthrop survey, he even crossed the majority threshold.
In the meantime, in a fictitious repeat of the general election, Trump and Biden are deadlocked.
