The Democratic mayor of Chicago has reportedly announced a partnership with a far-left non-profit organization to advance his proposal for a government-owned grocery store, which he claims is necessary for “racial justice.”
This month, Mayor Brandon Johnson stated in a press release that the city-owned grocery store, which would be the largest of its kind in the United States, is necessary to resolve the departure of corporate grocery stores and to promote “food equity.”

“[F]ood access and security link directly to environmental and racial justice. 37% of Black residents and 29% of Latine/x residents are food insecure, compared to 19% of residents overall.” Johnson’s office said in a press release.
In fact, corporate grocery stores such as Walmart and Amazon-owned Whole Foods have recently departed Chicago as the city continues to struggle with violent crime and large-scale theft.
In April, Walmart announced the closure of four stores on Chicago’s South and West Sides, citing a dearth of profitability dating back 17 years, when the company first opened in the city.
The statement did not mention larceny, which has increased by 25% in Chicago in the past year.
However, Walmart’s CEO Doug McMillon did warn last year that he would have to close stores if theft in the United States did not decrease.
To combat crime, Johnson has established a community safety committee, which has thus far been a complete failure as chaos and disorder has continued to engulf the city.

If it happens, it should be fun to watch. In a mayor race full of Democrats, why did you expect anything different? Did the previous mayor, Lori Lightfoot, remind you of Max Headroom?
Sadly, Chicago deserves what it has gotten. Those myrmidon voters didn’t learn from the disastrous Lori Lighthead administration and voted in her political son. If he sets up this government owned grocery store, he’ll have to allow the gangs to rob it blind for the sake of “equity.”
Precisely! It’s the residents in those underserved areas who are responsible for their now underserved status. Putting any other business there to be robbed blind is NOT the answer! Prosecuting the criminals responsible for diving businesses out, regardless their melanin. or scents. “Equity” is not the same as equality, and it hurts everyone, while helping no one. But until leftists realize their policies ARE the problem, nothing can appreciably change.
Yet another government-sponsored voter bribery vehicle that’ll last until either Chitcago’s taxpayers’ money or patience comes to an end. I predict the first ten people through the door will steal at least 25% of the available merchandise. After that…who knows? (Not the instigators, for sure!)
