While some are wondering whether Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) is qualified for office after he froze up at a podium for the second time, House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R) is reportedly not ruling out a future bid for the Senate in his home state of Kentucky.
“I can’t predict the future. I don’t know what’ll happen,” Comer reportedly said during an interview with NBC News.
“I certainly don’t want to be one of these people that stay in Washington forever and get old. I think that’s not a good business model.” he continued later in the interview.
“I could have run for governor this time. And I don’t think a lot of the Republicans that filed would have filed if I had run. I think I could have won. But I knew I had the opportunity to be chairman of this committee. I knew it would be, in my opinion, the most high-profile position in the House.” Comer added.
His remarks were reportedly made before McConnell became unresponsive while fielding questions in Kentucky on Wednesday.
The Kentucky senator requested a reporter to rephrase the query twice before saying, “That’s a,” pausing for approximately 30 seconds, and then looking forward.
It was the second occasion in recent weeks that the GOP leader, who has reportedly stumbled several times this year, stopped to answer questions from reporters for a lengthy amount of time.
Following the most recent episode, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and other Republican analysts have indicated that it could be time for McConnell to go.
In the interview, Comer, the leader of the House GOP’s investigation into President Biden’s family, stated that he supports term limits and intends to resume his agricultural operation in Monroe County.
