Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida’s Republican Party is now reportedly demanding that government money for radio be suspended until statements by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan be no longer played on a weekly broadcast on an NPR outlet.
His remarks on Jews are broadcast on Final Call Radio, which airs every Sunday night on NPR affiliate WEAA 88.9.
In 2021, the most recent year for which data was provided, WEAA received more than $250,000 in financing from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CBP), which is wholly supported by Congress.
The Baltimore-Washington, DC, region is served by the radio station.
Farrakhan has a history of demonizing the LGBT community, Jews, and white people.
“Joe Biden says white supremacy is the nation’s greatest threat, but his administration is busy subsidizing the broadcast of Nation of Islam propaganda. Taxpayers should not be supporting Louis Farrakhan’s hateful rhetoric. I’m calling to halt any and all taxpayer funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting until WEAA stops airing Final Call Radio,” Gaetz said in a statement to The Daily Caller.
Morgan State institution, a public institution that got $46 million in grants and contracts from the federal government in 2022, is the owner of the radio station.
