Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, reportedly issued a stern warning over the weekend that the United States of America has to improve its overall military preparation or risk engaging in a major conflict with communist China in the not too distant future.
Graham made the comments during an interview regarding the national security of the United States that aired on Easter on the program “Fox News Sunday” on Fox News.
These comments were made by Graham at a time when China has been conducting provocative military maneuvers in recent days with the intention of scaring the free republic of Taiwan.
After meeting with key U.S. leaders on American territory the previous week, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen initiated the military drills shortly thereafter.
Graham stated that deterrence was the greatest choice that could be made and that the only way to do it was to have a superior military as well as technological capabilities.
“I would increase training and get the F-16s they need in Taiwan. There’s a backlog. I would solve that backlog. I would move more forces to South Korea and Japan. I would up our game. If you don’t up your game now, you are going to have a war.” Graham said.
Graham pointed out that the situation in Taiwan is different from the one in Ukraine, and that if China were to invade Taiwan, it was possible that US forces would be drawn into the war there.
“Nobody wants World War III. But what kind of world do you want to live in? Do you want to live in a world where an island called Taiwan could be taken by China? 90% of the high-end microchips are made in Taiwan. They would have a monopoly on the digital economy.” he concluded.
