The mass exodus from the Biden administration continues as the top White House lawyer has announced her exit, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Dana Remus will depart in July and will be replaced by her deputy counsel Stuart Delery.
Her exit follows a series of high-profile departures. Jen Psaki left the White House last month. Jeff Zients, who led the administration’s Covid-19 response, and Cedric Richmond, who headed the Office of Public Engagement, also left in the spring. Vice President Kamala Harris’ staff has also seen frequent turnover. Several lower-level press officials have moved to other jobs in the administration in recent weeks.
The shifts come as the White House contends with the president’s low approval ratings, high inflation and soaring gas prices—and as they prepare for midterm elections that could include heavy Democratic losses. The president has sought to sharpen his public messaging to better explain how the administration is responding to record inflation amid polling that shows the issue is frustrating voters.
The White House is in the middle of attempts to convince voters that the economy is the best ever as gas prices reach record highs.
It is unclear if Remus needed a change of scenery or she was finished working in an environment where failures stack up and wins are few and far between.
