Commerce Secretary Praises Trump’s Work Ethic, Calls Four-Hour Sleep Schedule “Most Impressive Thing” Amid Media Attacks on President’s Health

Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick told Fox News on Thursday that President Donald Trump sleeps only four hours a night — and said the president’s relentless work ethic is one of the most impressive things he has witnessed since joining the administration. Lutnick appeared on the network to promote the new “Trump Gold Card” immigration visa program, which is designed to attract top global talent by allowing applicants to pay $1 million plus a processing fee to secure entry into the United States.

While making his case for the visa program, Lutnick offered an unsolicited insight into Trump’s daily routine, praising the president’s focus and stamina. “Before I joined the government I had no idea how it works,” Lutnick said. “But there’s so much you can get done that, really, all that’s in your way is time. So, we just give it all we’ve got.”

He then highlighted Trump’s near-constant work schedule. “The president sleeps less than me! I sleep five hours a night. The president sleeps four hours a night, and he is working all the time. He calls me late at night. He wants to talk about the day. He is on it all the time. It is the most impressive thing you have ever seen!”

Lutnick’s comments come as the media continues to intensify scrutiny over Trump’s health, often relying on speculation and selectively framed photographs to question his fitness for office. Trump has faced a barrage of coverage over images showing him appearing momentarily tired during long meetings or official announcements — something critics have attempted to portray as evidence of declining health. The president has also been photographed with minor bruising and bandages on his hand and ankle swelling, which the White House has attributed to a previously disclosed circulatory condition.

Rather than focusing on the administration’s policy achievements or Trump’s aggressive schedule, outlets such as The New York Times have amplified concerns about his health. On Wednesday, Trump fired back, accusing the paper of engaging in “seditious, perhaps even treasonous” behavior for pushing narratives designed to undermine public confidence in his leadership. In a Truth Social post, he insisted, “There has never been a President that has worked as hard as me! My hours are the longest, and my results are among the best.”

For supporters, Lutnick’s remarks reinforce their view that Trump remains an exceptionally active and engaged commander-in-chief — one whose energy, work ethic, and constant involvement in governing stand in stark contrast to the sluggishness they perceive in administrations past. As the president pushes forward with major immigration, economic, and national security initiatives, the White House appears confident that Americans will see through media narratives and recognize the difference between politically driven health speculation and the reality of a president who rarely stops working.
