Trump Halts Funding to Schools in Maine After Left-Wing Governor Defies Executive Order

President Donald Trump’s administration has now reportedly halted funding to universities in Maine due to the state’s refusal to comply with his directive prohibiting trans-identifying males from competing in women’s sports.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a pause in funding for the University of Maine System (UMS), affecting eight public colleges while the agency investigates potential violations of Title VI and Title IX.

A USDA spokesperson confirmed that the impacted schools were notified of the funding pause, emphasizing that it is temporary while the department assesses compliance with federal regulations.

The notification indicated that the schools have not been found in violation of these laws but that further analysis is necessary.

During a White House event in late February, Trump warned that he would cut federal funding if Maine continued to allow trans-identifying males to participate in women’s sports.

This remark prompted far-left Maine Governor Janet Mills to threaten legal action against the Trump administration. During a subsequent bipartisan meeting, Trump directly challenged Mills, insisting that the state comply with federal law or face funding cuts.

Mills responded by asserting her commitment to uphold both state and federal laws, indicating her willingness to fight any potential legal battle. She reiterated her stance, stating, “We’ll see you in court.”

The ongoing conflict highlights the broader national debate over transgender athletes’ participation in sports, with Trump positioning himself against policies he views as contrary to traditional gender categories in athletics.

As the situation unfolds, the implications for Maine’s universities and their funding remain uncertain, pending the USDA’s ongoing evaluation.
