After his wife, former Vice President Kamala Harris, was unsuccessful in her bid for the presidency, Doug Emhoff, who was formerly known as the second gentleman, has now reportedly decided to resume his profession as a private attorney.
Emhoff, who has been working as an entertainment attorney for a significant amount of time, has recently became a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher.
“I am delighted to be joining Willkie, where I am looking forward to working alongside trusted and innovative legal counselors. I couldn’t be more thrilled to join this talented and collaborative team.” he said in a statement.
The law firm stated on Monday that he will divide his time between New York and Los Angeles.
A number of years passed before Harris arrived in Washington, during which time Emhoff worked as a litigator and trial lawyer.
In 2017, he was promoted to the position of partner at DLA Piper.
However, he took a leave of absence after his wife was selected to be Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate. Emhoff departed the prestigious company permanently after the Democratic ticket won the election in 2020.
Although DLA Piper has a lobbying division, Emhoff did not work in the lobbying field.
During the time that Harris has been serving as vice president, Emhoff has been a distinguished visitor from practice on the Georgetown Law faculty.
In his announcement, Wilkie suggested that Emhoff will continue to serve in that capacity.
Emhoff’s move comes after his wife, Kamala Harris’, disastrous attempt to defeat President Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
