Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) reportedly criticized Republicans who are unwilling to support House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in his endeavor to reclaim the gavel in the lower chamber.
His remarks follow days of criticism of Republican members who have diverged from President-elect Trump’s endorsement of Johnson’s second term.
“This is a stunningly stupid, suicidal strategy…These guys need psychologists,” Gingrich said during a Fox News appearance.
He then followed this criticism up with a post on X:

Johnson was unsuccessful in the initial vote on Friday due to the loss of the support of three critical Republicans.
Following the impasse on Friday afternoon, lawmakers intend to conduct an additional vote.
