Jeff Bezos Comes Out in Defense of Trump

Jeff Bezos is “very optimistic” about the anti-regulatory agenda of President-elect Donald Trump and is reportedly open to assisting him in his second term.

This comes after the owner of the Washington Post received criticism for his newspaper’s lack of a presidential support.

On Wednesday, at the annual New York Times DealBook Summit, Bezos, who owns The Post through his Nash Holdings, participated in a conversation with Andrew Ross Sorkin.

“I’m actually very optimistic this time around. He seems to have a lot of energy around reducing regulation and from my point of view, if I can help him do that, I’m going to help him because we do have too many regulations in this country,”Bezos said.

“The most important thing is a growth mindset. And we are the luckiest country in the world. We have all these natural resources, including energy independence,” he added.

“You’ve probably grown in the last eight years. He has, too. What I’ve seen so far is that he is calmer than he was the first time, more confident, and more settled,” Bezos concluded.

During the course of their conversation, Bezos expressed his “hopefulness” regarding Trump’s desire to reduce restrictions within the federal government.

Bezos was subjected to criticism for the fact that The Washington Post did not provide an endorsement for the presidential candidate, a position that he had previously justified on Wednesday.

“I’m proud of the decision we made, and it was far from cowardly because we knew there would be blowback. We did the right thing.”
