Balemar Zuniga, his counsel, downplayed the charges and the assertion that his client was preparing an attack.
Nevertheless, the FBI reported that the suspect, upon being apprehended, had confessed to researching the methods of conducting an attack on local military recruiting centers, offering his residence as a safe haven for ISIS operatives, boasting that he would carry out a “9/11-style” attack if he had the means, and attempting to create ISIS propaganda.
Around 2015, he and his family allegedly began supporting ISIS upon their return to the United States from Lebanon.
