Ultra-Liberal Newspaper ‘The Guardian’ Announces it Will No Longer Be Posting on X

The Guardian, a news outlet headquartered in the United Kingdom, has declared that it will cease to publish content on X from its official accounts.

The outlet claimed that the social media platform’s “disturbing content” was the reason for its departure. Currently, The Guardian has over 80 accounts on X, with an estimated 27 million followers.

According to The Guardian, X users will continue to have the ability to share its articles on the platform.

The news outlet also stated that it would continue to incorporate X posts into its reporting and that reporters would be utilizing X as a source.

“This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism,” the statement read

“Social media can be an important tool for news organizations and help us to reach new audiences but, at this point, X now plays a diminished role in promoting our work. Our journalism is available and open to all on our website and we would prefer people to come to theguardian.com and support our work there,” it continued.

The Berlin Film Festival also announced this month that it would cease posting on X after this year. However, it did not provide a statement or provide a rationale for the decision.
