Sen. JD Vance, former President Trump’s VP pick for the 2024 election, took a shot at Vice President Kamala Harris by calling her “trash” in a speech right before Election Day.
“Our message to Kamala Harris is very simple, the citizens of this country, they are not garbage for thinking that you’re doing a bad job,” Vance asserted while rousing supporters in Atlanta. “The citizens of this country are not racist for thinking that you ought to close down that damn southern border.”
“The citizens of this country are not garbage for wanting to be able to afford groceries and a nice place to live. But in two days we are gonna take out the trash in Washington, D.C., and the trash’s name is Kamala Harris,” he added.
His remarks were obviously a riff on President Biden controversially calling Trump supporters “garbage” last week.
In a social media post, far-left Squad member, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (D-NY), commented, “Not too sure that Republicans going from calling Puerto Ricans garbage to calling a woman garbage is the whiz-bang political chess move they think it is.”
On Tuesday, Vance mentioned losing friendships over his support for Trump while speaking to Fox News.
“We can’t discard friends, and we can’t discard family members,” Vance said during an appearance on America’s Newsroom. “I think that if we all just recognize this basic principle that we oughta love people, we oughta be friends with people, we ought to be family members with people, regardless of their politics, that would do a lot to heal the division.”

“I’ve had a few friends who have cast their friendship aside because I decided that I wanted Donald J. Trump to be the winner in the last election … [in] this election,” he noted.
Vance urged voters from both sides of the aisle to “remember” that friends and family are what “really matters.”
“We oughta be kind to one another, we oughta treat each other with respect,” he concluded. “And fundamentally what we’re trying to do, President Trump and I, is just build the kind of country where our fellow Americans can achieve their dreams, but that’s all of our fellow Americans, regardless of who they vote for.”
It was a message he reiterated when speaking to reporters after casting his vote in Cincinnati on Tuesday. “No matter what, half the country is gonna be hurting today,” Vance remarked. “We feel the best way to heal that country is to govern strong and as best we can. But family, friendships those are what matters most. Nobody should ever discard them for the sake of politics.”
The Republican senator reported that he voted for himself, Trump, and Senate candidate Bernie Moreno. “Standing here is a testament to the American dream,” he said. “My heart is just overwhelmed with gratitude.”
“I feel good,” Vance said. “But you never know until you know,” he said about the election results. “Our message is that we do expect to win. I felt this way before I won my first election and I feel that way today.”
