The economy is the most significant issue for the majority of voters in a recent survey, and former President Trump reportedly has a slight advantage over Vice President Harris on this front.
According to the Gallup poll, 52% of voters believe that the economy has a “extremely important” impact on their decisions regarding who to vote for in November.
It is the greatest level since October 2008, when 55% of voters expressed the same sentiment during the Great Recession.
In 2020, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, 44% of electors indicated that the economy was of paramount importance to their decision to vote.
The poll revealed that no other issue exceeded the 50% threshold as an extremely crucial issue for voters.
Just under half of the survey participants, or 49 percent, indicated that democracy in the United States was of paramount importance to their vote decision.
The survey also revealed that respondents prioritize certain issues based on their political affiliation.
The economy is considered extremely vital by approximately 66% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, while only 36% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents share this sentiment.
On the subject of the economy, Trump secured a tenuous majority among respondents. Just over half of electors, 54%, believe that he would be more effective than Harris in managing the economy.
The poll also indicates that Trump is highly regarded in the realm of immigration and foreign affairs, while Harris is more popular among voters in the areas of climate change, abortion, and health care.
