Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida and Vice Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence, issued a warning on Thursday.
He stated that the current situation in the Middle East has the potential to become the most perilous it has been in over half a century.
This is due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, which have reached a critical level.
Rubio’s remarks coincide with Iran’s declaration of intent to retaliate against Israel following the Israeli airstrike that resulted in the death of Mohammed Reza Zahedi, the prominent leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’s Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria.
“Iran wants to launch a large scale attack from their own territory against Israel. Israel will respond instantly with an even more severe counterattack inside of Iran. What happens next is the most dangerous Middle East moment since 1973,” Rubio wrote on X.

Zahedi was killed during a meeting with other Iranian commanders and leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist organization.
In 1973, Egypt and Syria initiated a synchronized and unexpected assault on Israel, which took place concurrently with Yom Kippur, the most sacred day in Judaism.
According to U.S. sources, Iran, which is widely recognized as the primary supporter of terrorism globally, was plotting a substantial assault targeting Israel.
According to Israeli media reports, Iran was prepared to carry out an attack but seems to have postponed or altered its intentions due to the U.S.’s warnings.
