Police reported that the father of a U.S. Marine from Southern California who was killed in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing was arrested for disrupting President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Thursday.
During Biden’s speech, a man was escorted out of the House chamber for shouting out repeatedly. The U.S. Capitol Police have identified him as Steven K. Nikoui, 51.
Nikoui is the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, 20, of Norco, who tragically lost his life in a suicide bombing outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul on August 26, 2021.
The explosion occurred as the United States was withdrawing from Afghanistan.
The guy who heckled Biden from the upper seating area shouted "United States Marines;" perhaps in reference to the 13 Marines the President killed with his disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. pic.twitter.com/n3OPgvVdtZ

While Biden was speaking, Nikoui was heard shouting, “Abbey Gate, Abbey Gate,” referring to the entrance of the Kabul airport.
According to a statement from Capitol Police, Nikoui was asked to stop shouting by officers and was removed when he did not comply. He was arrested for causing a disturbance.
Disrupting Congress in the Congressional Buildings is against the law, according to Capitol Police. It’s just a misdemeanor.
Florida Republican Rep. Brian Mast, a veteran, invited Nikoui to the State of the Union Address as his guest.
